猫の写真で前置詞を学ぶ〜Sora’s Tree Adventure〜

「前置詞なんて、なんとなくでいい」——そう思ってきた方へ。 一枚の写真から、驚くほど多くのことが見えてきます。

まず「in / on / at」の大原則を確認する

前置詞の混乱は、ほぼこの3語に集中します。ポイントは「どれだけ包まれているか」のイ
メージ。in（囲まれている）→ on（面に接触）→ at（点・一箇所）の順に「包まれ感」が薄れていきます。

よくある誤り：
日本人学習者は “Sora is on the tree” と言いがちです。間違いではありませんが、木全体
の中にいるニュアンスなら in the tree の方が自然です。「on the tree」は果物が木になっ
ている時などに好まれます（apples on the tree）。

写真から読み取れる前置詞フレーズ集

Soraちゃんの写真を英語で描写すると、こんなに前置詞が出てきます。

above / below The leaves are above Sora’s head. 上下の相対位置。接触は含まない。	between Sora stands between two branches. 2つのものの「間」。3つ以上ならamongsを使う。
through Sunlight filters through the leaves. 「貫通・通過」のイメージ。光や風が葉の間を抜ける場面にぴったり。	toward Sora is looking toward the camera. 「〜の方向へ」。到達は含まない。toとの微妙 な違いに注意。
beneath The trunk supports Sora beneath her paws. underより文語的。「真下に」という密着感がある。	against She leans against the bark. 「〜に寄りかかって」。接触＋力のベクトルを 含む。

たった2行の英文に、前置詞が 7個 使われています。前置詞は「飾り」ではなく、空間・関
係・視点を構成する骨格です。ネイティブが写真を描写する時、無意識にこれだけの前置詞
を選んでいるわけです。
